PAUL GAUGUIN 高更 (1848-1903)

看展前對高更近乎無所知，看展後有了一些認識...

還記得他幼年隨父母舉家投靠南美親戚，小時候西文比法文好，

返回法國後，曾在一所注重教育及獨立思考的學校就學過幾年，

 ... Gauguin himself claimed that 

 this period of schooling taught him to

"disdain hipocrisy, false pedantry, deceptive behavior," 

 and thus to declare,

"I can never believe anything that violates intuition,

the soul and the mind." ...

「不屑偽善、假道學、鬼祟的行為」

「只要是違反直覺、心靈與思想的事，我一概無法相信」

他在1891年接受的訪談可以一窺，何以展覽定名「ELSEWHERE 永遠的他鄉」，

"I am leaving in order to have peace and quiet,

to be rid of the influence of civilization.

I want only to do simple, very simple art and to be able to do that,

I have to immerse myself in virgin nature, see no one but savages,

live their life ... to render, the way a child would, 

 the concepts formed in my brain and to do this with

the aid of nothing but the primitive means of art,

the only means that are good and true."

另外，落落長的生平表裡，"13"這數字，因為太訝異，所以記住了，

好一個文明野蠻人，這是他在大溪地情婦的年紀 (完全畫錯重點==)
